I was helping my brother and his wife move some of their stuff the other day and she carries out this floor lamp – simple five foot metal bar – with three CFL bulbs sticking out at various angles, ready to throw it into the back of our Suburban mini-van. WTF? The bulbs are all dangling at various angles. I look at her and I could tell she’s already ahead of me and she puts it down and starts unscrewing the bulbs. I mean, if you’re careful, the likelihood of one of them breaking is maybe like 5%, but to have all those chemicals spewed all over the back of the mini-van where my nephews are frequently sitting on the car seats does not sound like a pleasant idea. I really dislike CFL bulbs.

Do they stop working sooner if they are not used much? We definitely don’t have that closet light on all that much. Now I have to figure out how to dispose of this thing. Environmental hazard.
